How Being a Nonprofit Helps Our Guests Heal
Hi All! In order to explain why MindBody was created as a nonprofit, I feel I need to give a little of my backstory.
Having lived with chronic pain from Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, I know how exhausting it can be to keep searching for relief. I’ve also experienced loss and grief, and I know how overwhelming anxiety can feel. Over the years, traditional care helped me to some extent, but I still needed additional support.
Much of the care that made the biggest difference in my healing journey wasn’t covered by insurance. Paying out of pocket wasn’t always easy. Sometimes I had to choose between holistic care and paying my bills. Each time, the bills won out. If you’ve ever put your own care on hold because you couldn’t afford it, you understand why this matters so much to me.
That experience is a big part of why MindBody was created as a nonprofit, to help make healing services accessible regardless of income.
A nonprofit is an organization whose income supports its mission rather than being distributed to owners as profit. It can charge for services and pay the people who do the work. At MindBody, that means the money we bring in helps keep our doors open and makes care more accessible to people who need financial support.
We offer massage, Reiki, sound healing, yoga, shadow work, spiritual guidance and more, giving our guests additional tools to support their own healing journey. None are covered by insurance.
I want to emphasize that we’re not here to replace traditional care. Medication and support from licensed healthcare professionals can be important parts of healing. A large part of our mission is to partner with doctors and therapists, offering additional support for the people in their care.
How It Works at MindBody: Sliding Scale
Our sliding scale pay option allows guests to pay a reduced rate based on what they can afford. When a guest can pay full price, we’re grateful because that payment is set aside after the facilitator is paid and fund the care for someone who needs financial assistance. Your own healing can help make someone else’s care possible.
When someone can afford only a portion of the cost, even less than half, donations, sponsorships and grants help cover the difference. Making this care sustainable matters, not just for our guests but also for the facilitators who provide it. They deserve to be fairly compensated for their time and expertise. Community support helps us pay them without placing that financial burden on the guest.
How We Can Help You
Tell us your story. You don’t have to know where to begin or which service to choose. One of our compassionate facilitators will sit down with you to hear what you’re experiencing and help you navigate what we offer.
There’s no cookie-cutter approach to healing. We’ll explore what might support you and find a starting point that feels right. If cost is a concern, we can talk about our sliding scale, too. We’re here to meet you where you are.
How You Can Help
Choose MindBody for your healing needs. When you visit our practice, you help others heal. Book the massage. Plan the healing retreat with your friends. Full-price bookings help make reduced-cost care possible for someone else.
Donate. Your donation helps fund care for guests who cannot afford our services, giving them access to support they might otherwise go without.
Volunteer. We need you! If our mission resonates with you, consider sharing your time. You might offer your holistic services or help with office work behind the scenes. We also need front desk volunteers so our doors can stay open while practitioners are in sessions.
Tell a friend. Whether someone needs our services or wants to support our work, your introduction could make a difference. They may not know that affordable options are available.
Sponsor our mission. As an individual or business, you can help fund a guest’s ongoing sessions or support a community program. A continuing sponsorship helps us plan ahead and make care available to more people.
I know what it feels like to put the bills first and hope the healing can wait. With your help, we can give more people another option. Love and Light, Anj

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Dear Friends,
MindBody Healing Center needs your help. It was brought to my attention, after its annual inspection today, that our 15 year-old boiler is on her last legs. We have nurtured her for the last 5 years, but my wonderful HVAC team can't be sure she will make it through this season and feel it is time to make arrangements for a new one. In order to replace the system before complete failure, we have been given an estimate of $15,000. For our new nonprofit, this is simply out of our reach.
We are humbly asking for donations, no matter the size, to keep the heat on at MindBody. Your generosity will help us keep our building, loving known as Stella, warm for our guest that come here to heal. What wonderful gift to give!
Thank you for your consideration.
Love & Light,
Andrea
Special note: We are collecting donations through Zeffy. They are a great organization that allows full donations to go to the nonprofit. They DO ask for a donation to cover their costs but you can opt out by putting a $0 amount in the tip line. This is the only organization that I found that does not then turn around and charge the nonprofit for the tip cost. Of course, if you would like, we accept Venmo, check and good ole' fashioned cash. Every little bit helps and is tax-deductible.
